Paint Altrincham Blue

When I started Paint Altrincham Blue 6 years ago it felt a bit bizarre as an Altrincham FC season ticket holder to be going blue! However, it was for a great cause which was to raise awareness of months health particularly testicular cancer that disproportionately affects younger men, prostate cancer, which is typically thought of as an old man’s illness but Sir Chris Hoy was only 47, the biggest cancer killer of men in the UK and men’s mental health as suicide is the biggest killer of men under 55 and men aged 49-49 have the highest suicide rates in the UK.

My own odyssey with terminal prostate cancer is well known but I didn’t want PAB to be about me hence raising awareness of the three things that affect men throughout all age groups.

Altrincham was the first town in the UK to go Blue but we have since been copied by Heald Blue which is very flattering.

I hope that by raising awareness for 6 years we will have saved some men’s lives.

Remember that it’s okay to talk and if you are having any issues impacting your health, talking about it is a sign of strength not weakness.

Altrincham FC Community Sports Recognised at North West Football Awards

Footballing Greats Honoured at the Spencer Chadderton Northwest Football Awards 2025

The stars of the North West football community gathered at the prestigious Spencer Chadderton Northwest Football Awards (NWFA) 2025, held at the Manchester Deansgate Hotel this evening (3rd November 2025), hosted by Hayley McQueen and Dion Dublin, to celebrate outstanding achievements both on and off the pitch across the region’s clubs, individuals, and organisations.

Hosted in front of a packed audience of footballing greats, leaders, and industry professionals, the NWFA, now in its 18th year, once again celebrated the talent, dedication, and community spirit that define football in the North West, arguably the greatest footballing region in the country.

The NWFA was proud to recognise those making exceptional contributions within the game, while also paying heartfelt tribute to two inspirational figures whose legacies continue to shape football, the late Matt Beard and the late Joe Thompson.

Emotional tributes and standing ovations honoured both men, who sadly passed away earlier this year but have left an enduring impact on the sport and all who knew them. The Matt Beard Women’s Manager of the Season Award was presented by Matt’s brother, Mark Beard, to Manchester United Women’s Manager, Marc Skinner, while Joe Thompson’s wife and daughter, Chantelle and Thailula, took to the stage to present the Joe Thompson Impact Award to Mo Marley MBE, recognising her extraordinary contribution to the women’s game.

In one of the evening’s most memorable moments, Manchester United legend Bryan Robson OBE was honoured with the Maurice Watkins CBE Lifetime Contribution Award. The former United and England captain received a standing ovation as he accepted the award, recognising his remarkable contribution to football as both a player, a manager, and an ambassador for the sport.

Laura Wolfe, from the Northwest Football Awards and Founder of event management company Road3, said: “Tonight has been a truly inspiring celebration of everything that makes football in the North West so special. As we say every year, football clubs are at the heart of their communities, and we are proud to be able to shine a light on the

incredible work happening across all levels of the game - from grassroots to the elite - and to celebrate those making a difference across the region.”

Spencer Chadderton, sponsor of the Awards, added: “The Northwest Football Awards mean so much to the clubs, players, and communities that define this incredible region - and to my family personally. I’m proud to play a part in recognising the passion, dedication, and achievements of those who make football in the North West so extraordinary. Congratulations to all of this evening’s deserving winners.”

Now in its 18th year, the Northwest Football Awards continues to champion the very heart of the game across the region, from grassroots to the Premier League and Women’s Super League - recognising excellence, inclusivity, and the community commitment that make the North West the true home of football.

Matchday Charity

Bee Caring homeless outreach group was set up in Jan 2025 by a group of likeminded experienced outreach volunteers., Sian, Caroline, Lisa and Janet. We also have volunteers doing outreach, cooking, baking and helping us in many other ways.

We go into Manchester City centre on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday nights every week come rain or shine.

We start out nights by searching in doorways for the rough sleepers and vulnerable people and give out hot and cold food and drinks, clothes, sleeping bags, tents (if we have any) and toiletries and can signpost them where to get further help. We always finish our nights in the same locations be that St Peter’s square Piccadilly gardens, so they know where to find us. It’s definitely getting busier out there and with winter on its way we will be needed more.

We’re always in need of help, whether that’s helping us with food, outreach, donating good condition joggers, hoodies and trainers (there’s a collection box in reception)

We will be at the ground with collection boxes (and card readers) on Saturday 18th October, please look out for us and donate if you can, Thankyou

We are delighted that Freekicks Foundation have agreed for the third season to support our mascot packages for the 2025/2026 season.

Head Of Community Simon Dow was delighted with the continued support, “Sam & Steve from Freekicks Foundation are amazing and the support they provide ensures we can provide children who participate in our sessions with an unforgettable day as mascot for Altrincham FC. The feedback we receive from the children who receive this opportunity is always fantastic and we can’t thank Sam & Steve enough for the support for the third season running”

Our community coaching team will be rewarding children from our programmes over the coming season and ensuring they have an unforgettable experience at Altrincham FC

The impact of Joseph's 'No Limits' Challenge

The funds raised from Joseph’s ‘No Limits’ challenge have had an unbelievable impact on Altrincham FC Community Sports and the programmes delivered for children, young people and adults with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).

Since September, we have been able to appoint a full time ‘Alty Ability Officer’, Alex Heywood, who leads all ‘Alty Ability Programmes’ delivered by Altrincham FC Community Sports, the first time that the charity has been able to appoint a specific person to fulfil this vitally important role.

With the appointment of Alex, the ‘Alty Ability Programme’ has gone from strength to strength with existing programmes continuing to grow, including the creation of a Pan Ability Football Team who play in the ‘Cheshire Ability Counts League’ and have just finished the season in an excellent 3rd place and Sport Social, which provides an opportunity for adults with SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities)  or disabilities to socialise and play in a variety of sports such as Boccia, Curling or just have a friendly game of Uno, which has seen an increase in participants that we are able to support.

The most exciting element of Alex’s appointment has been the many new programmes we have been able to start that will support the physical and mental wellbeing of children, young people and adults with SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities) or disabilities.

The new programmes include: -

Totally Alty

A brilliant social club that runs monthly on a Friday evening and enables adults to mix and enjoy activities such as Pool, Air Hockey, Arts & Crafts, X Box, Table Tennis or just sit and chat over some snacks from the tuck shop.

 Lego Club

Delivered in primary schools, this session provides children who struggle with the noise and unstructured nature of lunch times.  FIRST LEGO League Explore is a non-competitive robotics program designed for children ages six to nine. It is one of the programs established by FIRST.

FIRST LEGO League Explore follows the same theme given to the FIRST LEGO League Challenge.

 Primary School Inclusion Festivals

Every month we have been delighted to invite Primary Schools from Altrincham, Timperley & Sale to participate in our inclusion festivals, held in The J. Davidson Stadium, Community Sports Hall. They have enabled children with SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities) or a disability to take part in non-competitive activities such as boccia, curling, goal ball & Seated Volleyball.

 Neurodiversity Training

Our Alty Ability Officer has delivered neurodiversity training in local businesses and to the Altrincham FC Community Sports coaching team to increase their knowledge and understanding of neurodiversity and how to support children and adults.

 Match Day Support

For supporters with visual impairments there are specialised headsets available at all home games, which will provide them with live radio commentary of the game, courtesy of Radio Robins and broadcasting on RadioAlty.

This allows supporters to fully immerse themselves into the matchday experience by making this experience more accessible.

For neurodiverse supporters we have created sensory bags/items which are available at all home games. The aim of this is to ensure that the matchday experience is both enjoyable and inclusive. The sensory bags/items are available for supporters of all ages and are free of charge. The feedback from supporters who have accessed the service has been positive and making the matchday experience more enjoyable for these fans.

In addition to the already wonderful work that Alex is delivering with our Community Coaching team, we have some exciting plans to increase our support further for children & adults with SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities) or disabilities:

 Panathlon –

A fantastic sporting programme – which includes multi-sports, football, ten-pin bowling and boccia & will give participants the opportunity to represent their school in sporting competition that they are so often otherwise denied. In addition, our in-school ‘virtual’ programme will contain simplified activities that can be delivered in school by staff.

 Employability Programme –

From September, Altrincham FC Community Sports will deliver its first employability programme that will support adults with SEND ((Special Educational Needs and Disabilities) or a disability aged 18 plus to gain skills linked to employability such as CV writing, Problem Solving, Overcoming Barriers, Mental Health Support and qualifications that will support them to gain employment. This was a particular passion for Phil & Julie Adams as they wanted to be able to support adults with SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities) or disabilities to gain employment and work experience to support them post-education.

Altrincham FC Community Sports manager, Simon Dow, said,

“I am absolutely delighted that Joseph has been recognised in the King’s Birthday Honours List 2025. His fantastic efforts in raising an amazing amount of money has already supported our Alty Ability Programme significantly and with the new programmes due to start in September, the legacy from his fundraising will be unsurpassed.

Joseph continues to be a central part to our programmes as he now volunteers with our inclusivity festivals, helping to inspire the next generation of children. We are extremely proud to have Joseph as a key part of the Alty family and can’t thank him enough for everything he has done for the charity and Altrincham Football Club.”

THE KING’S BIRTHDAY HONOURS LIST 2025-JOSEPH ADAMS

Words-Brian Flynn

The King’s Birthday Honours List 2025 includes Alty fan, Joseph Adams, who has been awarded the British Empire Medal (BEM) for services to charity, raising over £425,000 for Altrincham FC Community Sports to fund disability sports and employability programmes.

The 22-year-old, completed his ‘No Limits’ challenge, an incredible ten 10K runs in ten countries over six days, between August 27-September 1, 2024.

Joseph started his challenge in Amsterdam before taking on 10K runs in Liege, Luxembourg City, Heidelberg, Bregenz, Zurich, Como, Monaco and Nice, before completing his challenge by running the Altrincham 10K.

Phil Adams, Joseph’s Dad said,

“We are all incredibly proud of Joseph - it was an exceptionally tough challenge and took real courage to complete in quite extreme heat. We are hugely grateful for all the support Joseph has received from the local community and Altrincham Football Club and this award is wonderful recognition both of Joseph’s achievement but also the amazing community around the club and the area”.

Joseph was joined on his challenge by sisters Megan, Eleanor and Grace, mum and dad Julie and Phil, and first aider and family friend, Jo Racle.

Joseph, who has Down Syndrome and was in special care for three weeks when he was born and didn’t walk until he was nearly three years old, is now a very active sportsman, competing in national swimming championships (coming first in the 25m breaststroke in 2023 and 2024) and regularly playing rugby, football, tennis, and cricket.

In March, superstar fundraiser, Joseph, was named Premier League Community Captain for 2025,

Joseph Adams: Our Premier League Community Captain – Altrincham FC

in recognition of his commitment and contribution to the game and society. said,

“I am really excited to be getting this award and can’t wait to see my medal! Thanks to everyone who has supported me”.

Altrincham FC CEO, Sam Mackenzie, paid tribute to Joseph:-

“From the moment I was introduced to Joseph I was struck by his community spirit, his motivation to challenge himself and be outside of his comfort zone was outstanding to see. The funds raised were eye-watering, and in my opinion down solely to Joseph and his determination to finish his ‘No Limits’ Challenge. This recognition is well deserved, and I know he will take it in his stride with some pizza and beer. Congratulations Joseph and thank you, everyone at Altrincham Football Club is so very proud to have you as part of our family.”

Alty at WEMBLEY

Stamford Park Primary School represented Altrincham FC at Wembley Stadium and became National League Trust U11’s National Champions!

The boys earned the right to play on the hallowed turf at Wembley Stadium after victory in the regional rounds at Marine FC led them to the North finals hosted by York City, here they defeated Scunthorpe to book their place at Wembley.

The boys, along with family and friends made their way to Wembley on Sunday 1st June, some of them even jetting in from holidays just to be there. On arrival, they received the full Wembley treatment; a trip to the dressing rooms and a walk down the famous tunnel onto the pitch, which was met with gasps of excitement.

Time for kick off and after a tricky start to the match which included two great saves from our goalkeeper Roy, we settled and began to play. We concentrated on building from the back with Theo and Jack, allowing Jacob, Elliot and Harry to work their magic further up the pitch which resulted in Harry being denied a 1 on 1 by the St Albans goalkeeper. Momentum was swinging in our favour and Elliot won a free kick in his own half, the result of which smashed off the crossbar. With Altrincham knocking on the door, we made some changes; Issac came onto the pitch immediately showing his authority in net as he claimed a long throw and Asser, replacing Jack at the back, began casually taking on opponents in tight spaces.

With three minutes to go, the game looked destined for penalties until Harry received the ball on the halfway line with his back to goal, he took on two players and managed to lay the ball off to our Captain Jacob. Jacob set himself up beautifully with a great first touch and with cries of ‘shoot’ echoing around Wembley, he unleashed a thunderous strike into the top corner of the St Albans net. Jacob enjoyed every minute of celebrating in front of the elated crowd but quickly, with minutes to go, attentions turned to defending our lead. We changed tactics and made some substitutions with Jack slotting in at the back, leaving Harry and Elliot with the task of non-stop pressing for the final three minutes. With blocks from Jack and clever balls forward from Theo time was ticking away, the boys even managed to carve out one last chance to score before the referee blew the final whistle. Celebrations commenced, the Altrincham section of the crowd erupted and the boys to made their way up the famous steps to the Royal box to lift their trophy.

“We are extremely proud of the boys who have represented their school and Altrincham Football Club magnificently throughout every stage of this tournament. This occasion is particularly special for our staff as six of the eight players involved started their footballing journey with us at the age of 3 when they took part in our Mini Kicker programme, so it was amazing to see them develop and compete in a National Final.” – Simon Dow, Head Of Community

Alty Primary School Side win National Final

What a day for the U11 football team from Stamford Park Primary School.

After winning the Altrincham FC Community Sports Primary School tournament in early 2025, they went onto to represent Altrincham FC at the North West finals, Held at Marine FC.

After coming in the top two, they progressed to the National Finals in York, where they played against the best teams the Northern clubs had to offer and triumphed in the final to set up an amazing day at Wembley.

After an exciting week where they were presented with their shirts for the game by Altrincham FC Manager Phil Parkinson, who also had some words of wisdom for the team, as they prepared for their day at Wembley.

It was fitting that Altrincham FC Community Sports Head Coach AJ & Stamford Park Primary Teaching Assistant Sam Heathcote had the responsibility of coaching the boys on the day , having work with 6 out of the 8 boys since they were 3 and starting their football journey at Alty Mini Kickers before progressing to junior football and school football.

After a tense and tight game, Jacob came up with an unstoppable finish to give Alty the win and the opportunity to climb those many Wembley steps to the Royal box and claim their trophy!

Well done boys, we are all so proud of you!!

Come on Alty.

Freekicks Foundation Mascot Feedback

Our mascot experiences which have been funded by Freekicks Foundation again this season, provide unforgettable experiences for young people.

It’s always great to receive feedback like below and makes all the hard work worthwhile.

Dear Altrincham Football Club,

I just wanted to say a huge thank you for giving James the amazing opportunity to be the mascot for the Altrincham v Tamworth game. It was his very first football match — and what a way to experience it! It truly was one of the best days of his life.

From the moment we arrived, James was made to feel special, important, and part of the team. He threw himself into the experience with so much excitement, passionately shouting for Altrincham all the way through the match. He hasn’t stopped talking about it since, proudly sharing the day with friends, family, and everyone at school.

A very special thank you to Sophie, Alex, and Simon for their warmth, kindness, and attention — you made him feel so welcome and included, and that meant the world to both of us.

We’re now very much looking forward to supporting Altrincham next season — you’ve definitely got a new little fan for life!

TWO LOCAL PRIMARY SCHOOLS CROWNED CHAMPIONS

Whilst representing Altrincham FC; Willows Primary girls are North-West Champions whilst Stamford Park boys are Champions of the North! Both teams will go on to proudly represent Altrincham FC at the National Finals in June.

The journey for both teams started at the Altrincham FC Community Sports annual winter under 11’s boys/mixed and girls’ tournaments in October. The tournaments are open to teams from all local primary schools that we currently work in delivering PE, PHSE, social action projects, lunch, after school clubs and more. Both teams were victorious at our tournaments with Heyes Lane Primary girls coming runners up.

The teams then went on to represent Altrincham FC at regional tournaments. Willows girls travelled to the Premier League Primary Stars North West tournament hosted by Liverpool FC Foundation where they lifted the trophy at Liverpool’s Academy by defeating everyone they played against including Crewe in the semi-finals after losing to them 1-0 in the group stage. Finally, after drawing in the group stages, they beat Liverpool 4-0 in the final to book their place in the National Finals.

Each year the National final is hosted by a Premier League club, this year Willows will attempt to lift the trophy and become Champions of England at Molieneux, home of Wolverhampton Wanderers. The girls will receive the full Premier League treatment for the day.

Stamford Park boys & Heyes Lane girls went onto The National League Trust North-West Regionals hosted by Marine FC in the Community at Crosby in Liverpool. Both teams making the North finals as runners up on the day; the boys beating Chorley 4-0 in the semis & then narrowly losing out 1-0 to Chester in the final and the girls losing to defending champions AFC Fylde in the final.

Both teams then made the journey to the National League Trust North Finals, hosted by York City FC. The winners of the tournament would go onto play the South Final winners at Wembley Stadium! Heyes Lane girls put up a battling performance against an AFC Fylde team, who were now undefeated in eight National League Trust tournaments, unfortunately they bowed out at the semi-final stage.

Stamford Park boys went on to be crowed North Champions after beating the Chester team they previously played at Marine 3-0 on their way to the semi-final where they pulled off a 2-1 win vs Darlington sending them to the final. Stamford Park lifted the North trophy and secured their place in the final at Wembley after defeating Scunthorpe 1-0.

Everyone at Altrincham FC Community Sports & Altrincham FC wishes both teams the best of luck!

“We are so proud of the children from Stamford Park Primary School & Willows Primary School. They represented Altrincham FC & Altrincham FC Community Sports in the most fantastic way, showing unbelievable skill and determination to reach the National Finals of their respective competitions. We are planning some very special activities to recognise both teams achievements that will also help them prepare for their National Finals. Come on Alty!!!”Simon Dow, Altrincham FC Head of Community

"Seeing our football team win isn't just about the score; it's about the heart, discipline and teamwork these pupils have shown! The whole school community will be supporting them at Wembley and we're all incredibly excited!" – Sarah Price, Headteacher at Stamford Park Primary School.

Joseph Adams - Premier League Community Captain

Joseph Adams named as Community Captain for Premier League More Than A Game initiative

Altrincham FC has named Joseph Adams as their Premier League Community Captain in recognition of their commitment and contribution to the game and society.

Over the past two weeks, the Premier League and clubs have celebrated ‘More Than A Game’ and highlighting the positive impact of Premier League investment into communities and clubs at every level of football.

The Premier League is investing £1.6 billion into wider football and communities between 2022 and 2025 to support football at every level of the game across England and Wales. This world-leading funding into clubs, communities and facilities positively impacts and inspires millions of people.

As part of ‘More Than A Game’, the League will be celebrating more than 100 Community Captains – individuals nominated by Premier League, EFL and National League clubs for their contribution to their local community via programmes funded by the Premier League.

Joseph Adams has been chosen as Altrincham FC’s 2025 Community Captain for his incredible commitment to their community and for raising over £400K for our disability sport programme.

Simon Dow of Altrincham FC Community Sports said: “The commitment and efforts of Joseph have been outstanding as part of our Disability Program and Premier League Primary Stars and the award is testament to all their hard work and dedication to helping improve our local community

Premier League Director of Community Nick Perchard said: “It is so important that we continue to recognise and collectively highlight the positive impact that work within local communities has, championing those at the heart of Premier League-funded initiatives. Success on the pitch enables the Premier League to share unparallelled investment into communities and football at all levels across England and Wales.”
