Altrincham Ukraine Appeal- Huge Generosity Shown by Local Community

Since that fateful day on the 24th of February, the last month or so has seen the world witness some extremely sad events play out across our social media and television sets.

Within less than one week of the initial invasion, no fewer than one million Ukrainian people had fled the country in fear of their lives, according to the UN refugee agency.

For many members of the Altrincham Community, we felt that if there was something that we could do to help, we must do it. In partnership with Trafford Veterans, we put out an appeal for help. Donations were requested to help any Ukrainians fleeing their war-torn country.

We could never have expected the response we received from the local community. Within one week of putting out the call, we had taken as much as our building could facilitate, the equivalent of roughly 2 whole vans.

From baby supplies to torches and first aid kits, we cannot over-emphasize how important this generosity will be in helping support Ukrainian refugees, many of whom had to leave all their belongings behind.

We just wanted to say a massive thank you to all those who contributed by; donating, giving up their time to help sort items and pack the boxes, as well as loading and driving the vans! In particular, Trafford Veteran, Woodyatt Warner and Sale and Altrincham Rotary Club. We were truly overwhelmed by the response, and it is vital we continue donating as this situation does not look like ending anytime soon.

The Community Sports Hall entrance, located at the J Davidson Stadium, will continue to be a drop-off point for any donations from Tuesday the 15th of March onwards. Keep an eye out for any updates on our social media, and once again, thank you so much for your continued kindness!
